Playlist #3 Castaway

Music can help us transport from one place to another. Here’s a tropical playlist to help you feel like you’re lying on the beach, enjoying the palm trees and sunny skies. When impending pressures seem to threaten your peace of mind, its nice to just take a deep breath and let it all out. Pure relaxation and serenity and without a care in the world! Chill out and take it all in with some soothing music playing in your ear! Sending some good summer vibes your way! Here are my top songs for your island vacay!

Island in the Sun – Weezer

When you’re on a holiday
You can’t find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I wanna feel it too

On an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brain
(Fell in love with this track after watching Aquamarine – The 2006 Australian-American teen comedy film.)

Could you be loved? – Bob Marley

Could you be love and be loved?
Could you be love and be loved?

Don’t let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! Oh, no!
We’ve got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you’re thinking is not right!
Love would never leave us alone,
I am the darkness there must come out the light.
(Can’t have a chill playlist without including Bob Marley!)

Kingston Town – UB40
The night seems to fade
But the moonlight lingers on
There are wonders for everyone
The stars shine so bright
But they’re fading after dawn
There is magic in Kingston Town

Oh Kingston Town
The place I long to be
If I had the whole world
I would give it away
Just to see, the girls at play
Ooh, ooh, ooh
Classic! Played at nearly every Goan wedding and always seems to keep the crowd at ease)The Beach Boys- Kokomo

Off the Florida Keys, there’s a place called Kokomo
That’s where you want to go to get away from it all
Bodies in the sand, tropical drink melting in your hand
We’ll be falling in love to the rhythm of a steel drum band
Down in Kokomo

Aruba, Jamaica, oh I want to take you to
Bermuda, Bahama, come on pretty mama
Key Largo, Montego, baby why don’t we go
oh I want to take you down to
Kokomo, we’ll get there fast and then we’ll take it slow
That’s where we want to go, way down in Kokomo

(Heard this song for the first time as a kid watching Full House and fell in love with this song ever since, still hear it on the radio sometimes and makes me forget about all my worries)

Jamaican Farewell- Henry Belafonte
But I’m sad to say I’m on my way
Won’t be back for many a day
My heart is down
My head is turning around
I had to leave a little girl in Kingston town
(Pretty much mentioned in every Pop Hits book that I’ve laid my hands on, I’ve been singing this song as a kid and never stopped since. Give it a listen and you’ll know why)

Playlist #2 High School Musical

What better way to take you back to school then to listen to some school inspired tunes? Here’s my TOP 10 school inspired playlist to bring out your inner school kid and to help you reminisce about your school days! Whether you loved school or just wanted to grow up and get out of school *shifty eyes*, I guarantee life was just not the same without it. Sing along!

The Beach Boys – Be true to your school
So be true to your school now
Just like you would to your girl or guy
Be true to your school now
And let your colors fly
Be true to your school
(What better way to deal with the blues than with a good Beach Boys track?)

Paul Simon- Me and Julio down by the School Yard

Well I’m on my way, I don’t know where I’m going
I’m on my way, I’m taking my time, but I don’t know where
Goodbye to Rosie, the queen of Corona
Seein’, me and Julio down by the schoolyard
(Featured in the film, “The Royal Tenenbaums” which is one of my favourite movies!)

Alice Cooper- School’s Out
No more pencils no more books
No more teacher’s dirty looks yeah
Well we got no class
And we got no principals
(Rock Legend!)

Vitamin C – Graduation
As we go on, we remember. All the times we had together. And as our lives change, Come whatever. We will still be, friends forever. As we go on, we remember. All the times we had together. And as our lives change, Come whatever. We will still be, friends forever.
(For some of us, our friends were the sole reason we went to school, myself included. Sang this at my high school farewell and still don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed about it so that’s a proven winner in my book)

The Jackson 5- ABC

Oh, A B C
It’s easy as 1 2 3
As simple as, do re mi
A B C, 1 2 3
Baby, you and me girl
A B C it’s easy
(Its easy as 123, How adorable is Michael?)

Wheatus- Teenage Dirtbag
Cause I’m just a teenage dirtbag baby
I’m just a teenage dirtbag baby
Listen to Iron Maiden baby with me
(Ahhh *internal screaming like the teenage fangirl that I am*)

Working Class Hero– John Lennon
As soon as you’re born they make you feel small
By giving you no time instead of it all
Till the pain is so big you feel nothing at all
A working class hero is something to be
(The Beatles got me through both board exams and generally helps me through life as well, love this track!)

Family of the year –Hero
Let me go
I don’t wanna be your hero
I don’t wanna be a big man
Just wanna fight with everyone else

Your masquerade
I don’t wanna be a part of your parade
Everyone deserves a chance to
Walk with everyone else
(Its another song with the title ‘Hero’ in it but I listened to this song on repeat every day before my board exams and it generally helped me with the pressures of being a student and the expectations that go along with it, the chorus will have you singing along, no doubt about it!)

Grease -Summer Nights
(An old one but still a good one, Sandy and Danny were my OTP)

And lastly, Bryan Adams- Summer of ’69

(Played at every Goan wedding, this song makes everyone’s day simply because of how legendary it is! We love you, Bryan!)

High School Musical

The Challenge: And so we talked all night about the rest of our lives
Where we’re gonna be when we turn twenty five
I keep thinking times will never change
Keep on thinking things will always be the same

Most of us look back on our school days as some of the best years of our lives.A student’s backpack contains some of the most essential items required to survive a school year. Yes, Survive! Our trusted friend, the school bag contained not just our books and essential school supplies but also things that keep us going through the day.
A lucky stationery item, favourite snack, an item you’ve kept over the years or some accessory that you just *cough* snuck in are just a few examples. Beware of the raids, guys!

Movies like Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller’s Day off  (Ah John Hughes, you legend!) and even Juno, Grease, Clueless, Dead Poets’ Society help us relive our youth and those school days where we tried so hard to stay out of trouble and yet ultimately failed.

What are the things most commonly found in your backpack? What are the things you can’t leave home without? Submit a picture!

Show some school enthusiam!

The Challenge: If you’re lost, you can look and you will find me
Time after time
If you fall, I will catch you, I’ll be waiting
Time after time….

In the 2009 science action film, “The Knowing“, student Lucinda Embry’s idea to build a time capsule is picked up by the school, every child is asked to draw what they believe the future will look like. This time capsule will be opened in fifty years.

The third season of the American comedy television series, “Parks and Recreation“, protagonist Leslie Knope tries to rally her town together in order to build a time capsule but chaos ensues as Pawnee citizens argue over what to include. Human ashes, dead cats, diaries feature as suggestions.

While I’m not looking for dead cats in this time capsule, if you could build one in order to give future generations a glimpse into the past, what would you save?

Leslie Knope has a few ideas!

Um, maybe not, Leslie.

The challenge: Seems I’m not alone at being alone, A hundred billion castaways. Looking for a home

For some, a vacation on a deserted island sounds perfect. Unless you’re stranded. Remember the 2000 American drama survival film starring Tom Hanks? Picture this: you’re a castaway and stuck on an island and only allowed 6 items. While finding shelter, finding water and food is your main priority, what things would you consider important for your survival?

At a loss, why not ask Ron Swanson for help?

Playlist #1 Zombies

Fun Fact: ‘Zombie‘ just happens to be my nickname due to my spaced out demeanour (not my fault guys, just happened to be lost in thought most of the time). Here are some zombie songs to inspire the inner zombie lover in you. Why do you love these flesh eating monsters so much? Tell me in the comments below.

‘Zombie’ by The Cranberries (because, duh)

‘Thriller’ by Michael Jackson  (That beginning scene is everything!)

Look what you made me do’ by Taylor Swift (Who knew Taylor would look so good coming back from the dead? Also, biggest debut video in Youtube History)

‘Midnight City’ by M83 (Okay, technically not a zombie related song but its featured in the movie ‘Warm Bodies’ and I love a good electropop track)

‘Shell Suite’ By Chad Valley (Again, from the drama/romance film starring Nicholas Hoult *Swoon* and Teresa Palmer)

‘Hungry Heart’ by Bruce Springsteen (“Everybody’s got a hungry heart…..” )

Are any missed out? Tell me your favourite track in the comments below!

Zombie land #3

“If I was ever in a zombie apocalypse I think the first thing I would think I need is my phone.
But first things first, I’ll take a knife. Because I NEED SOMETHING TO KILL THEM WITH. but not any knife will do, it should be long enough to hurt them from a distance.
Next I would definitely need food and water. Maybe more chocolate than food per se, since chocolate gives us a lot of energy. And water is a necessity, come on.
3rd thing would be a lighter. Preferably a kitchen lighter because I know for a fact those ALWAYS light up. At some point I’m definitely gonna have to light something on fire. What if zombies get scared of fire? Or its raining heavily and i need to keep myself warm?
4th, my cat. I would definitely save my cat because she is an angel and I would never let anything bad happen to her. When I’m hiding in one corner of some place, I need something to keep me sane in a world full of zombies. 😂
5th would be a jacket. A nice thick warm jacket. Because EVERYBODY knows that the one way you for is if a zombie bites you. Well, a jacket is long sleeves and will definitely make a little difficult for the zombie to bite into your skin. Oh and well, we always like something that’ll keep us warm.
6th. A bag. For sure. I can’t hold all these things in my hand. I need to put them somewhere right? Okay maybe now would be the time when I say I would want my phone and a portable charger too. Because, It’s my phone man… how can anyone ever leave their homes without their phone?”

  • Knife
  • Food/water
  • Lighter
  • Cat

Zombie land #2

  • Swiss army knife
  • Cell phone
  • Wallet
  • Hoodie
  • Story book
  • Backpack

“If my town, was (God forbid) ever struck by a zombie invasion, my primary reaction would obviously be to film it and upload it onto social media (probably go live too) because, let’s face it, HOW COOL IS THAT!?

But considering my life is more important than that live video, I would suppress that urge, gather a few things and run for dear life.

The first few things that I would pick up are

1) Swiss army knife
This particular belonging of mine, was given to me by my mother before going off to college.

It will serve as a tool for self defense as well as basic survival.

There’s also a certain amount of sentiment involved in carrying this with me.

2) My cell phone (along with the charger)
This will help me contact my near and dear ones, use the flashlight, use the maps to find my way around. And also maybe find a way to get that live video in.

3) Wallet

My wallet contains essentially my life. It has most of the things I may require to flee the town and be able to relocate. Be it money, identity documents and even a minimal amount of first aid in the form of band aids.

4) Hoodie
Cause sometimes you need something to keep you warm. Also it is also advisable to wear full length clothing during a zombie apocalypse

5) A story book
Hiding in some dingy corner in an abandoned house could get boring, and who doesn’t enjoy a good read now and again? No, I will not be reading in the dark, I’ll have my phone flashlight.

6) A backpack
How else am I going to carry all this stuff around?
